Hi everyone, I am after a little help. 

I recently picked up a 2013 Superb Greenline tdi 1.6 , around 100k. And I think it is having an issue, but I can't quite work out what it is. 

For the first part of the journey everything seems fine, car drives fine (although it's not as smooth running as my previous golf blue motion estate with the same? engine). 

After maybe an hour or 2, it will randomly stutter slightly, this seems to happen when the car is in say 4th, and on the dash it's telling me to change UP, but it feels a little like the engine is saying change down. 
So around 1.5k-2k rpm. 
If I give it a bit of juice it tends go away, sometimes it does it again, sometimes not. 
It sort of feels like the engine would if it was struggling and wanting to stall. But as I say, seems to happen as you are at the other end, and seems to coincide with the ECU saying change up. 

I thought at first it was a throttle issue, as it seems to happen when I am lightly applying the throttle (often in a 50 zone on the motorway where you are between 4th and 5th). 

Or it has happened in 3rd/4th when hovering 30. 

I am a bit paranoid about it as the golf died with injector failure, out of the blue, leaving us (me and the family) stranded on the motorway at night. It had done 170k without any so much as a blip. 

I suspected maybe throttle body, so got that out and cleaned it up. 

I suspected fuel contamination, as it had had a load of supermarket fuel in it, when it did it lots of times. 
Since then it has ONLY been fed on BP premium. And it now rarely happens. 

It had a fuel filter change last year but maybe this is blocked? Surely if it was injector or similar it would show earlier in a drive?

I am going to borrow VCDS to run a diagnostics, but anything else I should look for?
MAF sensor, EGR?

Try cleaning your MAF sensor but be carful as they are very delicate
