Running Power Wire for Amplifiers

Featured Replies

I'm sure this has been asked before but....

Is there a nice gromit in the engine bay through which to run a power wire for an amp.

Will more than likely be going for 2-gauge or 0-gauge stuff.

How have people run the power through the car?

Under the seats, down the centre or along the passenger/drivers side?

Quinten had an aborted install of an mStation in his Octy. However, he very kindly left us a legacy of a thread with complete installation pictures of getting the power wire from the battery to the boot, and you can find it here

HTH!

Not in the engine bay as such...

If you prise off the scuttle panel on the passenger side, you should be able to see a pollen filter, and to the left of it as you look from the front of the car is a small hole which you can just about fit some 4-gauge through. This comes out behind the air-conditioning unit which is behind the glove box.

You can then run the cable down either of the sides under the plastic trim or the carpet. Mine's currently coiled under the passenger floormat though as I haven't been RSed to finish doing it yet... :)

Rob.

All I will say is don't use 170A welding cable.

If you remove the glove box, there is a grommit somewhere in there through to the engine bay ( quite deep in it too. ) and then it can neatly be fed into the trim that runs down the left hand side of the car. (well, that's the path I chose)

Good luck.

As Howard already pointed out, I detailed such an installation in a previous thread. I'd recommend going through the centre console as you then don't have to fiddle with the ******* plastic things underneath the doors.

[/quote']Jason, I don't suppose you remember exactly where?

I've taken the box out of my fabia, but there's so much insulation carpet, I don't want to rip it all out if I'm looking in the wrong place.

Urgent advice required from the fabia ice expert (I hope I've chuffed you now ;) )

Cheers mate

As per PM, when I removed the glovebox there was a grommit staring me in the face with a cable coming through already, so all that was needed was to push the power cable through alongside. There was no extra carpet to remove as it was up by the fan casing IIRC. Good luck. :D

(obviously these vRS are better insulated than the lowly PD100s... :P)

In addition to the PM, here's the pic :)

 It looks close enough to the fan casing that I mentioned to be the one - It is bloody tight (as the bishop said to the actress ;)) :D

And that's an understatement :D

I'll have a go, but dunno if my chunky cable will fit in there with the other one too... :(
