Arghh help on new head unit

Featured Replies

My brain hurts. I have spoken to Halfords and visited various incar audio shops.I cannot decide. I want an CD player with MP3 ability and at a push a jack to plug my Archos MP3 into. I do not plan to upgrane furbys speakers but want better sound than I have now.

Including fitting prefer to keep at

i've had alpine, kenwood, sony, jvc etc and found that alpine sound the best for pure quality but tbh the JVC i have now is very close to it but lots cheaper for what it does :)

JVC make this which i believe is excellent value for money as it is a dvd player, cd player, mp3 player, wma player all in one and you could plug a phono>3.5mm adapter in the back i expect for your Archos mp3 player ;)

Alpine can be a bit "tinny" sounding. Very detailed though. I've had a few different alpine units, and whilst I've been pleased with them, i've always found them a little lacking in midrange. JVC and Pioneer units are supposed to be a lot warmer sounding. I'll have a hunt about and see what i can find. Do you have to get it fitted? Its very easy to do yourself.

Thanks for the advice. I would rather have some one fit it who has the experiance. To many memorys as a young lad taking hours to badly fit a stereo :(

Been looking through ones for you and I agree with bengie. The JVC looks nice, and from the description it sounds like it has a aux input on the back that you'd plug a headphone jack aux adapter into.

Hi again still undecided but can get Sony CDX-M850MP used for

my mates had them, i don't think the face is removable so a big :thumbdwn: for me. I'm happy with my JVC :)

i have a jv gd-612 with front mini jack input just for the same job as u, i got mine through someone on here for cheap but i think its been discontinued now :( not sure what the direct replacement is, but very good headunit for the dough under 150 and u can set the gain on the line in as well very handy :) maybe pick one up on ebay not sure

I've heard a few JVC head units and they do sound good but not very natural sounding. Great for dance music and some drum n bass though. I find Kenwood head units to be a lot more neutral both in terms of sound and aesthetics. I can't comment on this seasons range from either manufacturer although I do like the look of This
