Meguiars

Hi all,

My new VRS will be arriving soon and I want to make sure I keep it as clean as possible. If I were rich enough I'd use Swissol but I think my preferred option will be Meguairs.

The question is, they have so many different products available and being kinda new to the car washing thing I have no idea what to use. Is there a guide available?

I want to keep it looking as shiny and new as possible for as long as possible.

Suggestions greatly appreciated!

Cheers

Have you looked at their website http://www.meguiars.co.uk/ it seems to have quite a lot of advice, or you can order their catalogue/booklet which also has a lot of the stuff from the website if you prefer a hard copy.

what colour have you bought, lets start with the two bucket washing....

As it's new, once you have the car (dont let the dealer valet it, ask them to just wash and dry! They will only swirl it for you! tut

I've been using Megs for over two years, if its your preferred brand I'll try to offer as much info as possible, I own nearly everything they have! lol

Hi guys,

I have bought/ordered Black Magic same as my current car. I have been using Diamondbrite on my current Skud but it has never been waxed/polished and I want to keep my new car in supreme condition.

I have ordered a booklet from Megs and have paid to have the Lifeshine on my car by Autoglym. Some say a waste of money but its personal preference I guess.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Cheers

I have just stripped and Audi TT sport of this today, and made the car look like it should! Obviously I cant post any pics here, but the post is on www.detailingworld.co.uk....... might be worth a look :)

I really wouldn't bother with that - you can do everything yourself with Meg's products.

Just seems a waste of money - maybe not if you're the sort of person who doesn't look after their car, but seeing as you're asking about cleaning products before you've even got the car, I don't think you're that sort of person :)

Post the piccies here, no one will mind

they get deleted mate, so its easier not to

Hey guys,

So could I was my car as soon as I get it without cleaning/prepping/polishing it?

Also, what lubricant do you use with the megs clay bar?

Cheers

You always have to wash the car first to remove the surface dust and dirt before you do any other treatment. As long as you don't use a car shampoo that contains wax etc. you can wash it as many times as you like before you do any further treatment, but the sooner you get a protective coat on it the easier it will be to prepare and keep clean.

The Meguiars clay bar comes as a kit with a bottle of "Quick Detailer" spray. If this runs out before you've used all the clay (tear the bar into several pieces so you have a more manageable sized piece and you can throw it away if you accidentally drop it on the ground) you can either buy the spray separately or I've heard people say that you can just use plenty of water, although I've not tried that myself.

If you are getting the car Autoglym'd, I think that the clay bar will remove it (someone correct me if I'm wrong, please). I am also trying to get into the proper cleaning routine and the products I am gonna use will be:

Autoglym clean wheels on alloys

Meguiar's Gold Class shampoo with Meguiar's lambswool mitt (2 bucket method)

Meguiar's water magnet to dry

Meguiar's Quik clay (only needs doing every couple of months)

Not much point polishing as I don't have a buffing machine (no point for you as the car is new so shouldn't have swirls etc., as long as the dealers don't valet it:eek: )

Autoglym extra gloss protection (sealant)

Poorboy's natty's blue paste wax (blue is for dark colours)

Sealant and wax applied with foam applicator's and removed with microfibre cloths

Meguiar's endurance high gloss tyre gel

Think that's it, didn't realise how many things I need:eek:

My vRS is Black Magic and is nearly 3 years old now and I really wish I'd got my act together sooner as my car has a lot of swirls and scratches so good luck and keep up with it:thumbup:

I have ordered my new Octy(Delivery Sept) and am having AUTO SMART siver seal done to both inside and out. Anyone got any comments?

  • 2 weeks later...

I use meguirs Tech Wax with gold class shampoo and never been more happy with the results absolutly amazing stuff,

as for the Quick Clay WOW i had some black spots on the car that nothiing could take off not ever a paint renovator, applied the clay bar and its back to perfect smothness with all marks gone.

Talking of Megs Tech Wax, Does anyone know why I get a streaking effect after using it? Am I doing something wrong? The car is a black magic Octy vRS. I don't polish round and round, so as not to add anymore swirls, just up and down. After buffing with megs towel you can see where I have gone up and down with the polish. It driving me nuts, any ideas??

Schwarz, why not try Autoglym Super Resin Polish before the sealant? Dave KG on DW has had excellent results with it on his tests at filling/removing swirls... Maybe also reconsider the Megs Water Magnet too as some people have had bad results with it - poorboys (polished bliss and others), pakshak and Aquatouch (serious performance) waffle weave drying towels are all much more plush and less likely to cause marring etc..

Yeah, it's not all coming off. You're prolly putting on a slightly too thick layer or something? It's not the easiest to buff off without streaks anyway. Maybe try a squirt of a quick detailer spray to see if that makes it easier to remove? :)

Cheers, I will give that a try. Even using the NXT Spray Wax I get streaks. It looks great from a distance but not good up close.

Looks tempting that Chris, thanks for the link. Does seem to have a good following on DetailingWorld, that XXX range...
