I've been looking at getting a DSG oil & filter change done soon(ish) for my VRS TDI 2.0 6 speed wet box but i'm a bit surprised by the cost differences.

 

A local transmission specialist has quoted £350 whereas the local Skoda dealer is charging £285.

 

I've read some other posts where people have said that the dealerships don't usually bother changing the gearbox oil filter, which I think i'd probably want done.

 

Do these quotes seem consistent with current prices elsewhere? I saw some posts from a few years back where a DSG service was £190ish so it's quite a big jump up but then everything has increased in price over the past few years.

£285 sounds about right for the dealer and reasonable. £350 is well over the top considering they probably wont use genuine parts.

 

I offer them for around £250 using genuine parts (or £200 with non genuine parts) as the gear oil is very expensive and the dealer buys in such large quantities to get a discount to offer it at that price.

 

Regarding the filter, you are getting confused with the 7 speed gearbox which the filter is classed as a 'non-serviceable' item, the 6 speed gearbox filter will be changed with the service.

Chuff me where those prices coming from! I paid £169 at my VW Indy genuine parts in May 2022. Oil was £85.

£85 oil is very cheap? You sure it was genuine?

and by the time you add a filter and the new crush washers that brings you over £110. So they only made £60? Which is less than most garages hourly rate.

I have no reason to question parts used as my Indy uses TPS for parts.

 

I have trust in them, for example I had a sticky DSG button that was stopping removal of the ignition key, they'd seen the fault before, they checked over, gave a full cost break down to repair and what it might be as could be one of two faults, (fortunately this was not required as it's stopped mis behaving for no reason after a while) and charged me nothing for investigation  work. 

 

They don't have a flashy brightly lit  reception just a functional workshop😀. 

 

Both owners are ex VW Techs and you can tell by just talking to them.

They will most likely have more than 1 parts supplier so if you wanted to be 100% I’d double check with them and I think you’ll find they may not have used genuine parts for servicing

Much cheapness when you can get it, and cash in hand and no receipt is nice, a nod and a wink to the blind man and what the VAT man does not know does not hurt.

That does not mean every one can get that deal.
