Do you really need a diesel. If you open up to petrol as well, your market increases big time as diesel cars hold their value well.

Also dont be put off by starship mileage, my commuter hack drives like new with 154,000 miles on the clock, and its a Ford petrol. I also know someone who has a Porsche Boxster 2.5 with over 200,000 miles on it.
