Head Unit change help please

Featured Replies

I'm changing a head unit in a SEAT Ibiza, S reg, I've got the old unit out and plugged the new unit in, but it doesn't want to power up, do I need to change the permanant and switchable positives over ala Fabia style? If so, can anyone remember the colours needed?

Thanks

I didn't have any problems with it powering up, just with it remembering the settings. From memory, when I put an alpine HU into mine I just need to swap the red and yellow bullet connectors on the HU loom. I'll have a scoot around on seatenthusiasts - http://www.seatenthusiasts.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=54908

this type of thing often crops up switched/permanent live.

I second that - switch the red and yellow (permanent and switched current) and disconnect the blue wire (K-line) coming from the car side. The blue wire coming from the H/U (same pin as the K-line on the car side of the loom)connects to an "amplifier" attachment that provides current to the stub antenna booster, so you have a radio tuner that actually receives.

red and yellow swapped over won't stop it from coming on just that it won't save its settings. if it isn't coming on then somethng isn't connected, a fuse is blown or the units shagged.

did the old stereo power up?

Cheers, its working.

Bengie, oddly, its still working fine. I thought it'd given up as its so old, but no, its still going strong.
