can anyone tell me if the front and rear seat headrests on mk1 fabias  are tthe same ? ...and so interchangable

I don't think they are. I think the fronts tilt whereas the rears don't.

 

I think they are slightly different shapes too.

 

That said, they may well have the same distance between the legs and therefore might "fit" either front or rear.
