Gearbox fail - 2015 Roomster 1.2 TSI

Featured Replies

Needing a steer on gearboxes - do/should I stick to the gearbox code (LMG) when replacing?

Reading around, I note it’s the MQ200 gearbox common across VAG marques which suggests they’re all the same physical shape/fit?

A breaker is offering me a very low mileage MQ200 gearbox from a pretty new Fabia (trying to get info on the code). Another breaker has a medium mileage (55k) gearbox pulled from a Roomster.

Presumably the difference in codes reflects gear ratios and translates into how well the car will drive?

The Roomster gearbox comes with a 3 month warranty. Unknown what the Fabia box would have (possibly nowt other than ‘it worked when it left us’).

NB: I’m not particularly familiar with car mechanics beyond basic maintenance.

What is the VIN?

VIN is TMBPM65J2F5026277

From what I can see there is no alternative to an LMG but it was also used in the Ibiza 2012>2015. Bear in mind that a genuine exchange box from a Skoda dealer 02T 300 058 X is a very reasonable £1794 inc VAT retail.

Interesting. My local garage quoted £3k+ and even with removal/fitting (I’ve been advised £300 for this)…£700 difference is a lot. Guess I’m not going  back there then.

Fit and forget two year warranty, not a difficult decision.

Perhaps their TPS cocked it up and quoted on a brand new one which is £2728.66, still not expensive, I double checked it with Nottingham TPS and the price is correct but the number doesn't come back on stock check so I need the VIN.
