2014 Octavia vrs high oil consumption

Featured Replies

Hi just wondering could anyone shed some light as to why I’m still experiencing high oil consumption, the car broke a valve spring and was using a lot of oil so I got the following replaced:

valve stem seals

piston rings

valve spring

head skimmed

so basically I got the top end refurbished, I had lost hope for a while but after leaving the car their I’ve regained interest in it again, it’s currently using .5l a week so around 300 mile which I can’t get my head around after all the work that was done to it. The mechanic said my turbo looked ok so does anyone know what else could be causing this issue as I want to keep the car and get a bit of use of it after doing all the work to it but when it’s using that much oil it’s just a bit of a let down

Hello, welcome to the Forum.

You have not said what engine you have.

Were the cylinder compressions tested after the top rebuild?

Hi thanks for the reply would I be right in saying a Cuna engine? Or where about could I find the engine code, yes my mechanic said he compresssion tested it after build and everything was fine, does anyone find any difference in the brand/type of 5w30 oil they use

So a TDI then?

There is no way that changing the oil viscosity or brand will stop the high oil consumption that you say you have - > 1.5 litres in 1000 miles!

There has to be something seriously wrong somewhere. Was a piston damaged when the valve spring broke?

If compressions are OK as you say, oil must be getting lost via the valve stem or turbo seals.

Sorry yes it’s a tdi, think I’m going to have to get a 2nd opinion from a different mechanic because like you said something isn’t right as the oil consumption is crazy

Engine code is listed in the first part (3 or 4 letters) of the engine number, this will be found on the vehicle registration papers - it is also often marked on the B pillar load plate.

The oil usage was stated as .5 litre (1/2 litre) in 300 miles. Still excessive though.

Apologies.... Need glasses lol
