2004 MKI Fabia - Electrics playing up

Featured Replies

We have a lovely 2004 Fabia, reminds me of my very early MKI Golf in some ways.

The electrics are starting to play up.

First thought was to get another car and sell this on, but our budget (5k) does not really open up any real options that give us anything better. We are the second owners and its only just over 40k on the clock.

Despite being tired inside we are being steered towards having the electrics done and keeping it on the road and for use by ourselves.

Issues are

  • Passenger window electrics intermittent and now does not pull down or up
  • Passenger window randomly winds down, since has stopped.
  • Centre console between rev/speedo not working
  • Have noticed the car unlocking then immediately locking again while standing on the drive

Another issue as we are looking at it, is one of the rear window winder does not work downwards, so you wind it down, then use your hand to push window down.

But overall, the car is sound, solid, never had engine issues.

Does anyone know what we might be looking at to have electrics considered?

You mean the LCD screen? Given that it's 20 years old it could well need replacing.

Check for broken wires between passenger front door and A-pillar connectors, also check for corrosion of connector contacts, especially if the rubber boot doesn't seem to be sealing well against the paintwork before you start work.

The central area of the instrument cluster has a 'maxidot' information display on some models, but most just have a few warning lights in that area.

Looks like some work needed on the various platforms to find working salvage.

Thank you both Paws4Thot and Breezy_Pete!

If you can post a shot of the instruments, ignition on (no need to run the engine) we'll get a better idea what you're dealing with. As things stand both @Breezy_Pete and I have just made general statements.

Good suggestion.
Will do.

Thanks again.
