MK4 Octavia VRS TDI - Any info?

Featured Replies

Just about to potentially pull the trigger on a mk4 vrs tdi estate. We currently have a superb with the 1.5 TSI.

Is there anything to look out for on these models, anything problems with the engines etc that I should be aware of?

im also struggling to work out which dsg box it has? I’m sure they are meant to be serviced every 40k miles but the VW garage I’m getting it from are saying 80k?

Per the latest brochure (link previous post), the latest Octavia have engines to euro 6e standard, that is new tougher standard, so they will have lots of fancy sensitive emissions equipment bolted to the engine.  How reliable that will turn out to be especially if you do lots of short journeys is anyone's guess.

Towards the end of the brochure is the technical stuff, and using SEL or Sportline it looks like diesel WLTP only improves mpg by about 12% over the 1.5tsi.  If you factor in diesel tends to be more expensive (usually 2-3% in summer or 6-9% in winter as similar to heating oil), and the fact the diesel costs £1500 more, then have to question is the diesel with its new complicated emissions equipment sensible choice.  My view is extra equipment is just something else that could potentially be problematic.

It says the DSG is 7speed, and with the torque of diesel likely to be DQ381 or whatever latest incarnation is called
