Driver’s door wiring loom question

Featured Replies

Shortly after fitting a new window regulator the car stalled and would not re-start.

Seeing as I had been working in that area I checked the door loom and found that if I wiggled it I could get the engine to start. On closer inspection one wire had pulled out and the insulation on several others was damaged so it is possible that other wires were shorting out or broken.

I called the RAC and after a long 6hr wait they arrived after I had to find another way of getting to work.

They dismissed my observation regarding the door loom and instead left this report;

vehicle stalled and would not restart on arrival tried to start but battery flat carried out checks and found earth terminal on battery loose have tightened and applied jump pack and vehicle just cranks over. carried out RAC scan see attached. tried cranking again and vehicle started and ran rough also noticed popping back through air intake. have turned off and vehicle starts every time but runs rough. member not hear to ask questions only wife and she said engine has always sounded rough. have suggested further garage attention, check cam wear and timing belt. but member not hear to make decisions. wife said to leave it as husband will sort it? no further action required.

My wife was under the impression that he had diagnosed a problem that he would describe in the report and that I could then drive the car to a garage to get it resolved.

The next day after running the car for 15 minutes it would not restart - presumably with the same problem.

I was wondering if it is actually possible for a short/break in a wire in the door loom to stop the engine starting?

Also if anyone could suggest anything else to check?

The starter motor runs fine for multiple attempts at starting, there is fuel (diesel) and the fuel pump seems to be working fine.

Any suggestions on where to start would be much appreciated.

Thank you!
