Octavia (MK 2) VRS - ICE

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have a Fabia VRS which I added a new head unit to, sub and amp. It sounds great, but I am about to get an Octavia VRS (MK 2) and want great sound BUT I want to keep the manufacturers head unit. This is beacuse I hate having to remember to take stereo front with me wherever I go (and I have been broken into once because of the new head unit). After years and years of having new flashy head units it in every car I have owned id really like to not have to worry about thieves anymore!

So, I understand the bog standard VRS wont sound great - certainly compared to what I am used to - so what can I do? I will still have my amp and sub which are fed from 2 pre outs on my current head unit. Does the VRS head unit have 2 pre-outs?

Alternatively is there a Skoda HU I can replace it with? I understand that there is an audio upgrade on a normal Octavia which adds 12 speakers and an AMP, but this does not seem to be available on the VRS. Can I retro fit a better Skoda/VW HU?

You could have a look at Becker Units. They look almost standard, and you only take the part between the twizzley knobs with you, not the whole front panel, so its a bit less to carry round.

Does the VRS head unit have 2 pre-outs?

HU?

The Skoda stream should have pre-outs ok but I can't identify which pins it uses on the quadlock connector without getting a look at the back of a head unit in a car with the 12 speaker system.

If you change t an alternative HU then you lose a lot of the functionality like integration with climate control, maxidot and PDC. Not the end of the world though.
