Crank sensor replacement

Featured Replies

Hi all, first post on this site.

Used the useful tips on many an occasion previously, so thanks to everyone for the great advice.

Crank sensor needs replaced on my car. Its in a pig of a position.

I just want to check with everyone that the best option is bumper off, radiator off to gain best access?

Done many on previous vehicles, but this ones in a right pokey place to get access..

Thanks in advance

Roger

Which engine?

2.0 Diesel, sorry, forgot to list that in first post.

Not sure which specific engine, its the sportline model.

The manual suggests access from underneath, removal of undertray is the only thing necessary for removal of the engine speed sensor.

You will need a long 4mm ball ended Hex by the look of it as well.

Thanks for the update

I've already got the undertray off, and access is blind.

Even used an inspection camera, but cant see an easy way in.

Oil filter housing and a couple of lower coolant pipes seem to be obstructing any easy access.

My initial thought was to get rad and bumper off, and visibility would be much easier....

Maybe just a deep breath and plough on blind...

One benefit is the new sensor comes with hex bolt pre fitted to the sensor body, so no footering about trying to get that wee fella in place....

I'll report back tomorrow, and if I remember, will post some pics of process..👍

The workshop manuals only specify removal of necessary components, it might be a struggle but somebody used to working on cars would have it out a lot faster by feel than taking half the car apart. Have a go, you might surprise yourself

Good luck!

Agreed, and I am a dab hand with cars. But some just catch you out.

Will report back with progress.

Thanks for your support, much appreciated.
