Sudden loss of steering

Featured Replies

Just wondering if anyone has experienced this or similar;

The other day I was driving at about 5 mph on a very bumpy forest track, both off camber and rutted. I was also going slowly round a corner while this terrain was in play, then all of a sudden the steering complete locked, as though the key had been taken out.

The engine was still on and we were still moving forward, the brakes still worked but i had absolutely no steering.

I was wondering if this was some kind of safety / damage prevention thing?

I wasn't ragging it at all, and didn't take the corner at speed, but the terrain was a bit mad (pot hole, camber, corner) probably on both wheels.

I haven't had any issues since, and took it really easy on the way home just in case it was more serious.

I've had similar experiences in a Peugeot before where the engine went into a shut off mode when I tried to drive up a 1 in 4 hill, so I'm just wondering if this is a thing on the Octavia.
