Service interval/oil change.

Featured Replies

We bought our Octavia 1.5 petrol Estate on 24 July of this year, with a 6 month warranty.
With the warranty in mind I've had it checked by our local friendly regular garage just recently who gave it a very clean bill of health.

I've had a text message from the dealer selling it to us, our local Listers, telling me their records show it's due a service. Meanwhile the infotainment screen (see attached pic) reckons that's not due for ages yet.

I'm wondering which information to trust - if the supplying dealer is just hoping to have me pay for a service it doesn't actually need, or whether it's possible the last service didn't re-set the details. Somehow they failed to supply full paper service history, despite reckoning they would  ( which reminds me to prod them, that's long overdue!)

Thanks for any advice.

Well if you dont have any records about the last service(s) then it's better to do at least the oil change. Better to be safe than sorry, an oil change does not cost that much.

The service calculation shown on your infontaiment can be re-set multiple ways, including just pressing the trip button correct way, so without knowing when or who has done it last time the numbers on infontaiment can not be trusted.

?

What have you done since getting the car, 2,800 miles?

?

Do you want the car on a fixed service regime of 9,400miles / 12 months and to service it a year from the Service if it was done correctly before you got the car?

Get that history on paper & have them email it now.

Forget the term Inspection, that should have been set as at the time of the Oil Service.

So either Fixed Regime 9,400 miles / 372 days,  or if on Variable / Flexible the Oil & Inspection Service might be at 18,000 / 20,000 miles / 24 months.

So allowing that the Tech / Fitter maybe never reset the Service Indicator correctly or set it you best check with a Skoda Dealer what the Online Service Records show as done and put on the system.

Just as an aside, I've found a GREAT source of genuine VW Spares and Quantum 5W30 oil.

CEAutomotive do a great VAG service kit - for £137 all in - genuine parts and oil.

e.g. for TDI 2.0 cars: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/165567211852

Ping them to make sure the bits fit your car before ordering and provide your registration plate.

Mon Dieu!!! Is that really a good deal?

Our retail price £133.55. The discounted price offered to yourself is the lowest price we can sell this kit out for with all discounts applied.

Looks like they are selling it at their retail price.

I used to buy Quantum oil 20l at a time when TPS had it on promo, I also got filters at a much bigger discount than they gave me on parts across the board, they were only just more expensive than the cheapest Ebay Chinese ones.

I know that I rarely replaced the air and pollen filters and the fuel filters hardly at all but a normal oil change with VAG filter used to cost me less than £30 using the bulk oil.

I no longer come to the UK so have to buy oil from Germany and filters from China, I am at the €30 mark per service now.

Thanks for the comments. It's prompted me to realise that due to some health issues I didn't chase up the service history, and have prodded them firmly.
The car's now on c.52 K miles, so around 2K since we bought it.

This is truly a helpful forum, thanks all!

@Hedgehurst Hopefully the Service History shows the Spark Plugs changed at the last service or the one before.

I would look in the Air Box and see the condition of the Air Filter.

That's worth knowing, though it'll not be me looking so much as suggesting to the back street garage I'll be taking it to, where we've been for around 30 years!

One issue with that is if the electronic service history is important to you - your BSG is unlikely to have access to upload service history updates.
