vRS suspension clunks and clicks

Featured Replies

My Mk 1 Skoda Octavia vRS has acquired a variety of clunks and clicks on minor road bumps, usually only noticeable at slower speeds. My local garage has told me that none of the joints on the suspension and steering have any play. What else might be the cause?

Could be a number of things:

Top mounts

Wishbone bushes

ARB drop links

ARB bushes (or the plastic sleeves on the ARB)

Ball joints

Track rods / ends

Broken spring (would expect a garage to spot that though!)

On my old one I replaced all of the above at some point in the 12 years I owned it and track rods/ends were replaced more than once. There was one knocking noise that I lived with for a long time because it was never even an advisory on the MOT - that was caused by a knackered rear top mount.
