I have a vis with (2016 pfl) the tyre size on it is 225/35/19. I have been given a space saver with the size 125/70/16. would it be too small to use? I am not sure on the space saver specs required.

Yes that's too small. IIRC the factory space saver is 125/70/R18. I don't think a 16" wheel would fit over the front brakes either.

    Space saver for the vRS 245 is 18" to clear the calipers. Not sure about the "lesser" models with smaller brakes (TDI) but would imagine they're the same.
