Intermittent starting issue

Featured Replies

Hi, so thought I'd ask the forum this when I go to work at 6am in the morning my car starts fine no issues even when cold I then drive 6 miles to work and leave it there till 4pm when I leave work and try start it it cranks over few times then starts and kicks out smoke , then drives and starts ok after that , then drive 6 miles home and leave over night till 6am an no starting issue only when I seem to leave work

Smoke suggests it's stuck in cold start mode, which points to a temperature sensor?

Is they any way of me testing the temp sensor ? And is this the coolant temperature sensor as funny enough my temp gauge goes up fast and stays in the middle

There is more than 1 temperature sensor, I think it could also be the one measuring intake air temperature - so rather than guessing I suggest a code scan.

Do you have a friend with either OBDeleven or VCDS - they give a much more in depth report?

Unfortunately not no I presume OBDeleven is the Bluetooth one to your phone ?

No idea, I use VCDS and a Windows 11 2-in-1 laptop but lots of people on here use OBDeleven.

I mean one that properly understands VW Group vehicles and their specific fault codes, not just the generic OBD fault codes.

This should have been the first question. Check the glow plugs.

I was told if it starts in cold weather without issues then won't be glow plugs I'll have to get a multimeter out on them

Issue apparently solved was a split line to the fuel filter now been replaced seems to have sorted it
