Changed battery capacity.....

Featured Replies

Hi All.

I've the basic early model Android/VAG only OBDEleven... i swapped out the battery for a 72amp one, old one 68a, same type Fleece.

Now i know that in the past, the battery manufacturer was JCB, serial number 1111111111, i had previous played around and tried to change this, wouldn't let me without credit.

anyway, bought the credits to change Battery capacity, did this, went into the gateway/adaptation/battery and not only the capacity changed to 72amp but serial number and manufacturer changed as well...

I'm i going mad???

I wouldn’t worry about the vendor and serial numbers changing as this shouldn’t affect anything other than let the car’s systems know that the battery has been replaced plus you managed to update the new battery capacity.

I only use VCDS for making changes, it tends to be a trusted diagnostic tool.

Carista I keep in our cars just for basic use while away from home.

Yes just surprised the obdeleven capacity change did other things as well! Agree VCDS is better but its also expensive for what i need.

Yes, finding that you haven't ended up being fully in control of what was changed, is not good, maybe report this to OBDeleven - I'd expect that they have a public forum for their users, reporting it as well directly to them, might make them jump - or be able to let you know why this could have happened.

Well yes, it would be nice to know if this is by design or by error... the only 2 apps they do for the non subscription version is Battery Capacity and Type... nothing about the serial number which i understand is the important bit....

OBD Eleven support atm seems to be non existent, i've no reply or response.

OBD Eleven came back to me, apparently the change capacity app, does that and changes serial number to a random one.

That's the thing with OBDeleven apps - they do lots of other stuff "under the hood", sometimes, as here, it's not a problem but other times (especially where Skoda have changed the firmware in a module) it has unexpected and unwanted side effects.

This is why some advise to not use the scripts but do everything manually.

For me, having a subscription version, isn't cost affective... i'm not interested in coding and it recognises all the fault codes, fuel filter prime is once every couple of years....

One thing too, buy the credits within the OBD diagnostic app and its £10, 3 x £2.99 but buy them on their website and its 6 euros..... a little thing but if you re doing a few changes, might be worth knowing.
