Whats a Baffle?

Featured Replies

Someone told me the rattle I hear when I start the car is because they think the baffle is loose. He said theres no point repairing it and I should just wait till my exhaust needs replacing anyway. He works at a car body repair shop so I'm assuming he know what he's talking about.

My point is what part of the exhaust is the baffle on?

Baffles me?

The baffles are inside the silencer box, if they become unstuck from the spot welds they can rattle....very annoying

Thanks.

The baffle is like wire-wool and is in the back box and rattles if it works loose. Wouldn't worry about it too much and the car will also sound a bit throatier too

Chris

could also be the heat shield above the rear silencer making the rattle

Baffles me

An old bodger's trick is to clout the silencer with a lump hammer, thus denting the outer casing to the point where hopefully it binds on the loose bit inside and stops it rattling! No warranty implied, or given though.
