Massage function fault

Featured Replies

Has anyone experienced issues with the seat massage function? While driving on the motorway, the passenger seat massage feature suddenly stopped working in an unfortunate way—the air pockets in the lower back remained inflated, making it impossible for my wife to sit comfortably. Is there a reset option or workaround available to resolve this issue?

Lumbar support adjustment controls located on the seat does not work?

Basically, yes

Seem they are broken, there is no emergency deflation system or anything like that built in. If the massaging function does not work at all from the infotainment menu and you cant do anything with lumbar support controls then you need to go to the dealer for warranty repair (seat replacement in practice).

Car in workshop while dealer tries to find out what to do. They think software issue and have referred to Skoda tech... This is day 3 in workshop.

Day 7 in dealer workshop (including the weekend when obviously no work is done). They received long list of checks to work through from Skoda yesterday.

The massage on the driver side on mine is not working (only half of the coushins are inflating). Dealer confirmed it's a known issue, software update is in the works. It could be the same root cause.

I bet there's a client superb somewhere which is getting the -rc-latest-latest fw somewhere :)

I have ran into weird software bugs, like if changing the massage type too quickly, the seat will lose the sync with the infotainement controls and will not stop either from side button or screen. Vehicle shut down and restart fixed it (yay CTRL-ALT-DEL)

Day 28 in Workshop: New 'media unit' to be fitted yesterday or today... 'this will fix faulty massage and ventilation functions'. Waiting to hear how successful this is in reality.

I thought I remembered seeing a topic about this...

Just had my driver's seat massage function stop working part-way along the M62. Had to drive the last hour home with the two massage 'balloons' just behind my kidneys fully inflated. 🤨

Tried switching off and locking, then reopening and restarting the car in the hope it might trigger a reset - nope. Hoping that leaving it overnight might see them 'deflated' in the morning. Otherwise, it's a call to my local Skoda dealer in the morning for a warranty repair - and a loan car, I guess, as I've got many hours of driving to do over the next couple of weeks and I'm not going to do them with two lumps sticking into my back.

That might seem pretty desperate measure on the surface, but the unit could have bricked during patching, thus the replacement. Just imagine how many updates it’s gone through in 28 days at the shop... Fingers crossed it solves it finally and kudos to your patience!

I feel like earlier units had this major flaw, and the manufacturer disabled the functionality in recent batches to prevent awkward seating positions (judging by the May/June produced units) until a fix is released.

Replacement didn't work. Skoda tell dealer to obtain new valve block (part of massage function?). But it's on back order. Weeks? Months? Lost confidence in brand after 17 years.

A number of excellent media reviews and particularly as a tow car (trying to get a tow bar is another story). Liked the concept but in practice does it follow through? Really wonder whether it's worthwhile keeping it. But feel it's the wrong time to try getting something else.

Mine's an Aug 24 'combi' Tsi 1.5 eTEC MHEV. Bought used in April.

There seem to be a lot for sale at the moment (July) with the same first 4 number plate characters. Significant?

What I can't find are lots of owner reports saying how good and reliable the vehicle is

Update. By this morning, the two 'stuck' cushions had deflated, and the massage function works again. Looks like the system managed to reset itself at some point after powering the car down last night.

Don't think I'll be using the function again until I've had a chance to speak to my local dealer workshop about it, though - don't want a repeat of yesterday, having to drive for a couple of hours with two lumps poking into my spine!

Sadly, I think it's time to start keeping a log of issues I've experienced with this car, so that I can get it thoroughly checked out when it next goes in for some work (this is the third thing, following two separate instances of transient errors with the driver assist systems). When we're paying this sort of money for a car which is pitched as a more top-end offering, I can't help feeling that the quality should be better.

I just experienced exactly this issue too. Brand new Superb by the way - 2k km on odometer!

Anyway I contacted multiple service points around me and one of them gave me a hint - just disconnect battery and let it rest for a minute. You should see the cushions deflate.

After that just connect the battery back. When you start the engine after battery was disconnected you will probably get a lot of warnings about assistant services (ACC, DCC...) - just drive the car for a few kilometers and it should be gone.

Hope this helps someone :)

On a brand-new car, we shouldn't have to be disconnecting the battery just to sort out an issue like that - it shouldn't be happening in the first place, and now that there are several recorded instances of it occurring Skoda should be engineering a fix for it.

You're right. We shouldn't. But we do. If we wish to keep using the feature, that is.
