Featured Replies

Please see my posts on 'Fabia Dust Cap or What'.

The original part failed ,and a new design is now fitted.

This is important from a safety point of view.

Andy

Just did a search using that string and only two threads came up. One was this one, the other seemed unrelated.

Could you post a link to the thread please?

They dont usually fail, unless someone has over tightened them, and then they snap.

i wish someone would post a pic up of what has failed as i still dont know what exactly has failed , hub nut?

I posted a couple of pics in the other thread.

But yes it is a hub nut. But they are very thin and kind of countersunk. If over tightened they snap off.

OK I did the search, found one of Jasons old threads...

sorry Ross missed your pics , i was suprised they didn't have a similar set up as the Galaxy as in a 14mm ? bolt with with a thick washer

Most are like that other than this platform. Its only there to stop the driveshaft rattling about rather than holding the bearing together, that is a single self contained unit.

looks very odd that nut thingy , never really looked at the VRS ones are they the same ?

Aha! My hub nut makes a re-appearance. :D I did always wonder if that's what it was when I first read about this problem. I also have been told about the new updated hub nuts, and they are much better. The fact they weigh about 4 times as much as the old nut shows it's pretty well constructed.

Tnx for the link ;) - Didn't find it due to the other thread not having a space after the comma (+ me being to lazy to try again, I just plonked the thread title in).

When was the design switched to the newer, stronger one?

All vRS's should have the 12 point nut, was changed a fair while ago, was a bulletin on the A2 on this when i was at Audi about 5 years ago.
