Low oil pressure warning

Featured Replies

Hi there,

I've recently purchased this car and I now have the low oil pressure warning?

I've replaced the sensor and the car is showing as having full oil with no leaks.

An oil change was apparently done a week before I got it and the oil looks clean so id imagine this to be true.

Its not knocking etc and the pump seems like its pushing oil through ok although we haven't done a pressure test.

Any thoughts?

Electrical gremlin?

Its on 185,000 miles and is a 1.6 Greenline diesel.

Will respond to any replies as soon as I am able to.

Grateful for any advice

Might be your oil pump driven helt. Need to take down oilsump and also timing belt crank pulley if I remember correctly. Oil pump belt is an easy job to do, but takes time since one has to get access.

Take it back - you've bought some else's problem car?

Suspicious an oil change was done a week before you bought it, however make sure the correct oil filter has been used and has been fitted correctly (not over tightened etc). The oil change might have been done to disguise a problem though. Pressure test required hot and cold.

Is it definitely an oil pressure warning- not level?

Does it show low oil pressure when engine is cold, and hot. Any difference?
