Engine management warning light - Advice?

Featured Replies

hi (btw this is my first post)

I have a Fabia estate 1.2 petrol (love it - slightly under powered but hey ho)

I was doing 75mph up the motoway last week and the engine management waring light came on - it not gone off since. There doesn't seem to be any trouble with unburnt fuel or misfires or anything like that - I can get it up to 90mph without any problem so ...

I took it to the skoda garage this morning and the guy checked it with the computer and said its probably some dust in the sensor.

He recommeded to drive it hard for a day or two to clear it otherwise come back.

I've checked this forum and it seems that this happens every now and then - there seems to be some discussion about coils - but isn't that deisel?

Please if anyone can advise I would be very grateful!

Hi Mate

The coils are on the petrol ones.

But the main problem is the 1.8 turbo engine , not so much yours.

I would always suggest checking the brake lights as the switch is common for going down.

But I would have thought that the dealer would have checked that.

There are LOADS of sensors all round your engine and any one of these could have a slight fault.

Did they give you a printout of what sensor?

I do not think that by driving it hard that your going to clean any of the sensors?

If it is running ok it could just be something that could just be cancelled to see if the fault comes back . if it does then it would mean that something is not right

Thanks for that - really useful.

I shall do as you recommend - How long does it take to reset the system? Can it be done by me or do I need the garage?

thanks

It's petrol engines which have ignition coils - normally referred to as coil packs if they fit on top of the spark plugs. The Fabia 1.2 has the latter type. When a coil pack fails there is usually rough running and the smell of unburnt fuel, and the

engine ECU should log a fault code. That doesn't seem to be your problem.
