Really want a Mk4 VRS but...

Featured Replies

I see a few issues on here lol, but does anyone have a clue just how many Mk4's have been sold to infotainment fault ratio. I see a few posts (albeit a few months old so pre 1969/1985 release, the posts have lessened after this software version) Do cars exist that just don't have the infotainment issues & have never had problems?

Has anyone done a poll on it?

Heart says I really want one, love the looks, toys, size etc (Auto-Electrical head says naff off lol)

I'm not sure about a poll but people are more likely to post when they have a problem rather than when everything is working great so it could be there is a "silent majority" out there who've never experienced any issues.

I acquired my Mk4 new in October 2023 and I haven't had any infotainment problems at all (so far). I would have to say it's probably up there as the best all-round car I've had in 30-odd years of vehicle ownership and I would definitely get another.

Came from an Audi to the VRS and hands down the best car I've ever had

Zero infotainment issues and I smile every time I get behind the wheel.

OK, mine isn't a VRS but shares the same infotainment system; was a complete 'mare in the early days but has been rock solid for a couple of years since getting upgraded to v1941 by the dealer. Now it's out of warranty I'd have to pay for it to be done or follow the DIY method outlined on here - and accept the risk of bricking the car. The way I see it, the benefit is little, the risk likelihood is low, the risk impact is high - so why bother. v1941 works fine (for me).

My car lacks a few toys compared to the VRS, such as matrix headlights & roadsign recognition which had issues in the early years of a mk4. ACC, SOS, blindspot detection, all work fine (now).

As others have said, the mk4 is a very good, highly capable, and fuel efficient car; and in estate form a brilliant load lugger.

Aim to buy new or an Approved Used model which should have all software updates applied before delivery.

I had a Mk 4 vrs from September 2022 until I upgraded to a face-lift 4.5 in July.

In all the time I had the car I had no infotainment issues apart from a period of about a month when it kept on restarting, after an OTA software update the problem went & never reoccurred.

Excellent car - but the new one is better 😊

Get a 4.5 it seems a massive upgrade from an infotainment perspective let alone others and I haven’t read any issues at all reported on this forum with it.

That maybe a smidge budget creep too far to get past the misses lol

I am very tempted, just need to find a decent spec'd car now then. Does appear that the latest updates have curbed the issues somewhat

I've had my vRS since May '21 and it's been trouble free as far as permanent errors go, yes I've had a few 'glitches' with the infotainment system, things like park distance error etc., but they have always resolved themselves on restart - pretty much like any computer.

From what I've seen on here, and it's just my impression is that the majority of the issues seem to be with UK cars - this may be biased by the fact that there may be a majority of UK owners on here. There are also other factors like different specifications for different markets, for instance down under our cars have different engines to the European ones, so hard to compare apples with apples to some extent.

It also seems that UK dealers are a bit more problematic than in some countries...

I've owned mine for 18 months and struggle to recall any issues with the infotainment- maybe once I had to turn it off and on once when an update got stuck, but nothing more.

Had a MK4 vRS for 3 and a bit years and it was fine. Some gremlins with the infotainment on delivery, but pulled a fuse and it was fine after that. Have a mk 4.5 vRS and it's even better!

What was the fuse for?

Would love a later model but the budget won't stretch to that at the mo lol

It was fuse 14 (infotainment) I think, pop it back in after 10 minutes fixed it. I don't think that's necessary anymore, as hopefully all of the cars who had the dodgy software have been updated
