parasitic current draw from fuse 12 on 2011 1.6 diesel

Featured Replies

Hi

My Skoda Octavia 2011 1.6 diesel estate has a parasitic current draw of 700mA (0.7A) - I measured this over 10 minutes and it appears to be constant. A fully charged battery drained completely in about 3 days.

By pulling fuses one by one in the dashboard compartment, I established that fuse 12 is responsible for 400mA constant load.

Fuse 12 is depicted as a black key on the legend.

When fuse is removed, the central locking still works but it doesn't lock/unlock front two doors.

I am yet to find what draws further 250mA. Assuming that ECU should be drawing ~50mA when idle.

Help most appreciated :-)

Nice day!

I have the same model and the handbook says fuse 12 is the "Control unit for CAN databus" With this fuse removed it probably explains the loss of locking as this uses the databus.

There are a number of items (like the window controls) which are kept active for ~10 minutes after turning the ignition key to off, and still drawing current.

Doesn't help with finding your fault but Fuse 12 may be a red herring unless you can show that appreciable flows through it with the car locked.

Thank you! Yeah that helps. I will disconnect the connector in either door and check current flow.
