Karoq v Elroq

Featured Replies

Went to the showroom to see if it was worth waiting another year to buy a near new Elroq (30k) or buy another near new Karoq (23k)now. Had 2 karoqs already and thought they were the best cars I've had in 54 years driving, bearing in mind my must have's were 1. Roof bars to take ladders and roof box occasionally, and 2. space for wife's wheelchair in boot.

Took a tape measure to the showroom and I'm not a tall guy, 5' 6" and wife much smaller but the ground to door sill in Elroq was 140mm higher than Karoq, i.e. difficult to get in and seated. The measurements from the sill down to the car floor was 50mm less in the Elroq which gave me the impression that to have the seat at a height to comfortably get in, you had to have your legs almost horizontal when seated unless you raised the seat once you were in.

I guess I'm not explaining this well but the overall impression to me was the Elroq is a great car, but the seating doesnt suit people with a less than average height....all because of the space the batteries take up in the car floor.

Most new Karoqs are dsg, auto which I don't want, so what's to do!

I ended up buying a 11 month old 1.5 tsi sel Karoq 10k off the new price and am happy to kick the 'buying an electric car' can down the road for another 3 to 4 years.

Anyone else have a view on the comparison between Elroq and Karoq?

I too have always noticed the more horizontal seating position of the Elroq/Enyaq compsred to my Karoq, even if the height of the seat above ground level is likely the same. I assume it must be due to the Lithium batteries being located under the floor. Don't know how I'd get on with that long term. I wonder if it might make the pedals fell a bit more comfortable - the high Karoq seating position and seemingly rather high set pedals never feel quite right. Partly why I like the ACC in my car - I can take my foot off the pedal on long motorway journeys - I used to get cramp in my right foot on such occasions in all my previous cars, however low or high set the seating arrangement.

A couple of weeks ago, when my Karoq was in for service, I took the opportunity to take a closer look at the Elroq; my thoughts have been that the Elroq could well be a contender for when the time comes to replace the Karoq. I should add that for me, currently at 6'1" and slowly reducing, the Karoq has been by far the most comfortable car I have ever driven.

I too became immediately aware for the horizontal seating position. with the steering wheel pressing onto my thigh; there didn't seem to be any further adjustment available to raise it. There's no way that In could live with that, and I came away pretty disappointed. I can cross the Elroq off my list of possibles.

This is an interesting thread! I also was leaning towards my first electric vehicle, but this seating height thing doesn't sound good at all.

Also agree with the Karoq, my 2nd one and probably my best car to date. Looks like I may be sticking with it for a while.

I drive daughter's Gen 2 Kona EV now and again, and was out in it today. I'd never really thought about it before, but it's certainly a more car-like than SUV driving position. No sense of the steering wheel on my thighs, although I was sitting a fair way back. I'm a shade over 6'.
