Unsure on pre-face list 98/99 models. If you do have them. Press and hold the down button for 10 seconds and then press up for 10 seconds also to shut the window. This resets the ccm module if you have this feature enabled.

If yes they'll often say AUTO on the button, also there's a soft click partway down and up the travel of the button so a gentle press does manual but going past the click does auto.
