Dumb Aerial

Featured Replies

Can anybody help with a non Skoda head unit problem? I bought a Pioneer CD Radio for the wife

Don't know if this helps much but there's usually two blue wires on the loom of most aftermarket stereos, one of which should be an output for electric aerial, the other being an amp switch on.

From my experience the aerial one will switch on and off when the tuner is used (eg off with cd etc) whereas the amp one should be powered as soon as you switch the head unit on.

You'll have to pull the unit out I'm afraid and I can't offer any more advice of what to look for as I'm not familiar with either Daewoo or Pioneer as a whole but I'm sure they're all similar.

If the old unit worked as described then it should be a matter of locating the blue wire from the head unit and connecting it to the car's loom. (Maybe in a bullet connector not going to the plug?)

And generally speaking there aren't many connections to an aftermarket stereo, usually as follows: Red and yellow would be permanant 12v and ignition 12v (sometimes swapped!), blue's for the two outputs, black for ground, usually one for lights dim (colour unknown!) and then usually four distinct pairs for speakers, eg grey + grey/white stripe, white + white/black stripe etc) - I'm an electrician so it's easy for me to visualize but hopefully you'll see what I mean!

Thanks I will have a look, I expected to find the power for the aerial separate but it is incorporated into the Iso plug, the electric aerial was factory fitted so the wiring is too neat.

Your manual should confirm which lead on the Pioneer harness is for the 'power aerial'. Failing that go to Halfords locate the appropriate harness and read the back of packaging (lists wire colours and the function of the wire), commit to correct colour to memory...you can then trace back from the harness to the OEM wires to figure out which is the appropriate one.

Hope that makes sense. It's worked for me you could always do what I'd never ever do (honest guv) buy the harness, don't open it (just use the back for locating wires) and take it back for a refund when the problem is fixed.
