front tracking settings

Featured Replies

Hello all,

Can anyone help me please?

I have some ongoing problems with the front left tyre being scrubbed on the outside edge. A local garage redid the tracking, saying it was well out, but I am not convinced that it is correct as the steering whell now has to be turned to the right to go staright ahead and the car also pulls gently to the left under braking.

Does anyone here know the toe -in and caster settings for the Superb?

So when I take it back and make them re do it again, I can tell them what to set it at!!!!

I know the srubbed nature of the front left might pull a little bit, but the car feels very bad to drive at the moment. It seems to want to diverge too easily, and that is not a nice feeling.

Thanks in advance for any help forthcoming.

Cheers all.

 Setting data. car should be unladen with 100% fuel

Front wheels should Toe in.

DEG. 0 DEG 20 min + or - 4 min.

Unladen vehicle 100% fuel

Front wheels toe in

MM 1,22--3,66

DEG 0deg10 min---0deg 30 min

These settings are from autodata.

If u are only scrubbing one tyre it is unlikely to be the tracking that is out. mis set tracking will scrub both tyres.

:)

check to see if there is any movement in the track rod or any play in a ball joint or bearing.

Is the scrubbing even or is it stepped, could be poss worn or weak shock absorber.

hope this helps.

Thanks Simon R.

That was a lot of info!

The scubbing is indeed uneven, and on 1 tyre only (front left)

The car has been fine the last 2 years, but whn I last checked the tyres (after not doing it for 3 weeks ) I saw the scrubbing, so it has come on quite suddenly.

I'll get the garage to check out the shocks. That may explain why the car seems very unpleasant to drive these days except of the flattest and straightest of roads.

Thanks again

Cheers

Glad to help a little.

Let us now how u get on and wot the diognosis is.

best regards

A tracking check is pretty much a waste of time, you will need a four wheel alignment check to tell you anything worthwhile.
