Dashboard warning icons - ECU/EMU

Featured Replies

Hi,

I mainly lerk on this forum and have found several threads here useful for solving some problems I have had with my Octavia. I currently have a problem with the car running roughly.

Here are a couple of questions that may help me diagnose a problem I have with my Octavia:

When the ignition is turned on, several icons light up on the dash (e.g. seat belt, ABS etc. ) which then disappear after a few seconds as they should. My first question is; should an engine management system icon light up, momentarily? I am suspecting here that maybe the EMU should be reporting a fault but the light in the dash to indicate this is broken. If there is such a light how can I check it is working?

Further to this, if I disconnect the MAF from the loom would you expect this fault to light up one of the icons on the dash?

Thanks for any help on this.

I think I can answer your first part - I have a 2000 X Octy, and though the manual shows an Engine Management light in the rev counter dial, our cars don't actually display it on startup.

I think this was only implemented after the facelift models.
