Windows 98SE

Featured Replies

I had a licence for this, the CD and certificate. Seems it has been thrown away. :thumbdwn:

Now, if I managed to get hold of a genuine CD and certificate that is not in use, either through never been used or upgraded and no longer needed, if I used it, would it be legal?

Assuming it is legal, does anyone have a spare floating about that they want rid of for a small amount of money? :)

Given that Windows 98SE is no longer supported by Microsoft and they do not provide any updates for it I would be more concerned about the security and usefulness of installing an eight year old operating system than its legality.

There are a lot of 'old OS' computers hooked up to the Internet that are specifically targeted by hackers/viruses because they lack important security measures. You also have the issue of potentially wanting to use modern software which may not run on Windows 98.

Freebies! You have a PM.

Trust me, this PC is going to be Win98SE and nothing else. It's old and its going to be operated by a blonde female who can't use anything but Win98SE. So thats what it will be. I'm just trying to find a cheap way of doing it that is also legal.
