Not sure if the 16v one is the same, but on my TDI, it could be removed by just pulling on it (back first and then front)....

I've got the Vrs and the 16v.....I have never managed to get the engine cover off the 16v unit....the Vrs one comes off easily.

The 1.4MPI 8V has a bolt under the Skoda badge and one under the little round grommet on the top right. It's my understanding you need to undo these to take the cover off.
