Air bag warning light

Featured Replies

Having just swaped the seats, from my 4x4 octavia for some Vrs ones,i now have the air bag warning light on permently. i have reconected the only wire into the new seat, but this has no affect. what's happened and how do i solve it? I did'nt thing changing the seats would cause this. Thanks Robin

When you turned on the ignition without the cable connected, the engine management unit thought "I can't speak to my seat airbags", and has logged that as a fault which is why you have the light.

It should be OK now, but the ECU keeps that flagged. You will need someone with a VAGCOM or pop into a VAG garage to have it cleared.

I think the general concensus is that the side airbags will still deploy, but I'd get it sorted sooner rather than later :)

Do the vRS seats have side airbags?

The Vrs seats don't have airbags, and there are 2 wires, but only one will connect to the Vrs seats and only on the drivers side.

Well the reason the airbag light is on is the car thinks it should have side airbags and it doesnt anymore.

The airbag ECU will need to be recoded and have you informed your insurance company you have removed airbags?

Perhaps it is indeed just a disconnection in the cables. Happened to me when I was changing the headunit. I took a short drive with the glovebox hanging just on the passenger airbag de-activation switch cable; it was leaning on the seat originally but a sharp turn tilted it. Stupid me, apparently there was just a quick temporary contact problem at the connector as the airbag warning light came on during that trip.

Vag-com cleared the flag, no problems since.

It is a disconnection in the cables, there isnt anything to connect to so the light will be on.
