Why is my car still idling like $hit??

Featured Replies

i've finally got round to trying to fix it but i've tried stuff and it still idles eratically.

i thought at first it was a missfire so i changed the spark plugs and the ht leads are new( leads were done under warranty ) i've also tried a different coilpack.......

i've run some fuel injection system cleaner through the engine a few times now, i cleaned the throttle body and the air flow meter....

there are no faults showing on the diagnostics check.

there are no vacuum leaks or any loose hoses anywhere....

but still it idles erratically....

any ideas anybody????? it's driving me round the bend now!!!!

Lamda sensor maybe? when this failed on my 306 it did not log an ecu error but made the car idle real bad and stall.

what exactly do you mean by erratic idle?

is it idling high/low?

is the idle ranging in speed?

if so from what to what roughly?

compression check ? dodgy fuel ?

I thought you were a mechanic, Tom ?

yep.......

it idles at about 900rpm which is fine but every so often it stumbles and the revs drop by about 50rpm then goes up then back to normal. it's kind of like a missfire but it only does it at idle and not throughout the rev range..

sometimes when you pull away it stumbles and almost stalls

it doesn't do it when the engine is cold tho. i've done a compression test and everything is fine.....

Lambda.....this only kicks in when the exhaust gases are above 80 degrees. It's ignored (open loop mode) when the engine is cold. The ECU goes into closed loop when the engine warms up and starts reading the lambdas voltage. May not show up on a diag if the readings are out as the ECU will still think it's ok.

Have you adapted the throttle body?

adapted? to fit what?

listen to ross Ben, he is better than me :)
