I cant post in ask a tech so ive had to post my problem here in the hope someone can shed some light, for the past couple of days my starter motor has been making a whineing noise after starting let me try to explain, when i turn the key the engine starts (release key straight away) but the starter continues to run on for a few seconds as if im keeping the key turned as i would if i was starting my car, ive asked a couple of people what it is but they all come back with different answers so thats why i'm seeking the advice of the members here who know a little about fabias, this does not happen eveytime i start the car, any advice is appriciated as always guys thanks in advance, if you need a better explination so you can help just ask and i'll do my best.

Is the barrell sticking after you release the key?

Id say the solenoid isnt working correctly on the starter and thus holding it it or its noisy when returning.

New starter motor.

if its a diesel it could be a dry bush in where starter spins , is it like a whine/squeal noise after the ign key released ?

@ric04vrs its a1.9sdi m8 yes your explination is about right whine squeal the noise is hard to explain

i'd go for the soleniod too...

So what are my options is it a new starter or can i fix the problem myself if it is a new starter are they expensive, could you tell me the best place to get one i would want a new one no recon cheers to those who have replied upto now its appreiciated

why not a recon??? most decent motor factors will do a excahange replacement on starter motors and alternators....... it's certainly cheaper than buying a whole new unit. doesn't the fabia have a bosch starter motor??? that's the same as what any motor factor s will supply you with

if its a similar starter to the Ford Galaxy 1.9 diesel, removal of the starter , then cleaning of the end of the shaft then applying a smear of copper grease on the shaft usually cures the noise HTH

@TeflonTom i just thought i would be better with a new one, its just that the car is new to me, there's nothing wrong with recon starters i agree but the car is only 3yr old and i thought it would be better to put a new one on but now you have metioned the recon i would go for that option cheaper is always better for me my pockets are'nt that deep lol, @ric04vrs i dont know if the starter is the same m8 as the galaxy.
