Changing Aerials - help!!

Featured Replies

Hope someone has some experience they can share on this.

My question is, does anyone know if the Skoda aerial (see piccie) uses a single standard sized hole in the roof ? The reason being that I don't want to get involved in trying to change it if there's going to be a massive hole (or holes) that need to be covered by the new twig.

Why change I hear you ask? Firstly, I'm no longer using the built in GPS antenna and, secondly, I think my new radio needs a stronger signal so, Bosch and Hirschman do ones from

Dont know about the builtin GPS, but you will have at least one standard size hole or two smaller ones. TBH I find the skoda oem aerial fine, and can even get a signal with the whip removed. You may have another problem. If you have removed the oem hu, and gone aftermarket you must put a signal booster in the aerial cable. The reason for this is that the oem aerial has a booster in the base that can only be powered by the oem hu.

I have removed mine in favour of a Honda S2000 aerial and attached it to the oem GPS base.

Thanks guys this confirms what I suspected from reading elsewhere namely, the standard Blaupunkt Satnav unit powers a head amp in the aerial. needless to say, I've changed the Blaupunkt for an Alpine unit (see SAT NAV and interior thread).

Next stop, a word with the dealer who did the fitting.
