Power From The Fusebox Help MKII Octi

Featured Replies

hi,

right basically i have 1 talex lite camera detector, and 1 mk2 skoda octavia vrs. i want to neatly install the talex lite directly into the car (i.e. without the ciggy lighter). can someone help me out a bit with what i will need to do this?

how do i access the fusebox in the new octavia?

how to i wire the talex into the fusebox? do i need to buy connector ends or similar?

where have people in a similar situation placed their detectors - dash centre, drivers side, etc?

where would i route the cables.

many, many thanks in advance :)

I've powered mine from the fuse box. There is one marked phone which is a switched live and ideal. You'll need the connector to push into the fuse box and the number is on here somewhere.

You'll need to remove the lower knee panel to access the back of the fuse box. Remove the headlight switch, remove the 2 small trims either side of the steering column and remove the screws, don't forget the one inside the fuse box cover.

Remove the fusebox, remove the back cover, slide back the purple coloured lock on the back noting that there is a small clip to release first. Push the wire in and rebuild everything. An earth can be taken from the fues box mounting using a ring tongue crimp.

By removing the top storage box you can gain access to the inner dashboard. There is room to pass the power cable along the back of the dash pod.

thanks for that! a cracking looking install! a few questions though. how does one remove the top storage box? can you route the cable this way without removing the headunit? also how does one remove the lower knee panel? is there anything in particular that i should be cautious about breaking easily (dad would not be too pleased about having bits of loose trim in his new car)? i want to make sure i have all the bits before i start to ensure i get the whole job done in one go!

A little off topic but it'll show how to remove the storage box -

Octavia-vRS.com - MFD2 Install Guide

Yes there is no need to remove the HU.

As for breaking bits - Just take your time, if it doesn't come off easily it's probably because you've left a screw in.

not off topic at all! if i get enough info i will do my best to get a howto guide done up!

I'm always willing to add guides in the people have written, it's what I run the thing for.

right figured the storage box out. now to get to the fusebox do i need to remove that panel below the steering wheel (above the pedals)? think it has just 2 screws? also what connector ends am i going to need to join the wire to the fusebox? i presume that the existing fuse will just slot into place?

Like I said remove the two small trims either side of the steering comlumn - they pull off and you will reveal more.
