upgrading head unit

Featured Replies

Im upgrading a standard head unit on a octy mk1 vrs to a panasonic head unit, will I hear a difference in sound as I feel the standard speakers can handle a bit more power or am I wrong, also what happens to the cd changer, can it still be used on the new head unit?

If the head unit is a good quality modern one you should notice a big improvement in sound quality.

Mine also has built in high pass and low pass filters so I have removed all the sub 125Hz frequencies from the stock speakers to let the 12" sub handle them - means I can wind it up a lot more without them farting  .

I think even though the changer is a panasonic built one it won't work with anything else other than the symphony skoda HU. :thumbdwn: .

Can comfirm that for you. the panasonic cd changer already in the car cannot be used with the after market unit you have installed.

The after market one uses phonoleads to input the sound from the changer. the "skoda" one uses internal wires in an intergrated plug to the skoda head unit.

Hope that makes sense to you

Wonder if you could actually make a "bodge" lead up using a skoda connector (from a scrappy say) so connect with the changer end - would involve also aquiring the head unit end socket too or chopping the cable, just a thought - wonder if anyone's brave enough to try it.............................:D

now i must admit i thought about it.

iam not too bad with messing with electrics my only trouble is risking it blowing up as it would have to be a trial and error sort of approach.

but then saying that, it would not be that bad, i suppose half are control wires so receive an electric rather than a electric pulse as sound.

just one second is there some sort of adapter that plugs into the same socket on the skoda head unit to add on a mp3 player or something?

please correct me if iam wrong!!
