TDI loss of power

Featured Replies

Hi all, my friend has a VW TDI golf 53 plate and it seems to be having some problems. The car seems to start and run fine for a while then start to loss power if you change down it carries on loosing power until you find a layby, stop and restart the engine where all is fine untill the new time! is the MAF sensor playing up or something else someone on here has experienced? i know it's not a skoda but its the same engine right?!

Cheers

MAF or fuel temperature sensor may be playing up.

Both could have a similar effect, worth dropping it on vagcom to see what kinda outputs you're getting :)

I concur with it being likely to be the MAF. There should be a fault logged on the ECU so would be handy if you could find someone with vag com to scan the ECU and tell you what's wrong. Otherwise, it's a dealer job.

Could equally be a dodgy boost sensor, or fuel temp as mentioned. Boost sensor tends to cause erratic boost loss, then suddent surge, rather than drops over time and finally cutting out.

Hi I Had Some Thing Like That To My Octavia It Just Kept Losing Power. Rac Came Out Checked Every Thing Nowt. It Wouls Start But As He Reved It It Would Loose Power. Took It To A Gargae They Couldnt Find Anything And It Ran Fine . But Prior To This I Had Filled Up With Fuel Wont Mention The Name Of The Garage Wont Go There Again Dodgy Fuel

had same problem with my transit tipper..........power one minuite then loss of all engine power..........came back after i started it again........fault was located in the throttle peddle as its electronic rather than cable.......worth looking into......best of luck ^_^

If it is a TDI 110 check for an over boost error too as this indicates that the VNT mechanism on the turbo might have gummed up with crud.

Would certainly be trying the MAF first though as this is a £65ish part
