Thinking of a remap...

Featured Replies

Hi folks, Im thinking of getting my fabia vrs remapped with revo or jabba with them being the closest to where i live. My question is can the standard clutch handle the 290lbs ish of torque the is going to be produced? Just dont want to go through new clutches like there is no tommorow.

Cheers everyone. Matt.

Depends how you drive. If you let the revs rise, it will be fine. But if you like to boot it at anything under 2500 rpm you will get lots of vibrations and the clutch wont last.

With the remap, it powers down far more like a petrol, so letting the revs rise feels right. You wil have to adjust your driving.

Or fork out £500+ for an uprated one now?

You can also get the map tweaked a bit to conserve the clutch more, if you tell the mappers. Good advise already given though in 'the way you drive makes the difference'.

I've got an uprated clutch/pressure plate (not too bad, price wise) + Limited Slip Diff (expensive) so I dont have too much grief at the moment :)

I used to think that a generic remap was "one suit to fit all" but it seems I was wrong...

Jabba limited the torque on my remap to around 270lbft.

PS: Book now and I think the November/December discount may still apply :)

Cheers for the replys guys. I just thought it was a one size fits all jobby but if they can limit the strain on the clutch then all the better! Does it make a big difference having it done then? Been thinking of getting it done for ages now, id get it done soon but with christmas and everything.

Cheers again, Matt.

I think Jabba (and several others) do a generic map which is for the standard car, perhaps with the PD160 intake.

As for grin factor, even a mild remap will have that effect. Only real catch is you might just go down that slippery path, which I of course would never go down  (well at least I didnt until I visited this site AND had the car (which came after) ;) )

You'll enjoy it for sure & perhaps you can benefit from the GB pricing if they are feeling generous ;)

A friend mine remapped yesterday at Jabbasport - £292.50 for the generic map and what a fantastic improvement it makes :D

Highly recommended and yes book now as you save 10% on the price!

Must confess I was worried beforehand, will I feel the difference. "****! Oh yes I can" is the answer. The extra shove around 2.5K is noticable, then it keeps coming until around 4Kish.

:rofl: I always said my car would stay standard too....

I have Revo on mine. In the end I chose to buy the SPS 1 switch aswell so I can turn it off whenever I want. Its much better like this- during the week I have it standard, so I drive like a granny most of the time which saves loads of fuel, because I can use the low down torque. Then whenever I want a play I put it in silly mode and drive it like a petrol! Which is awesome.

This way I reckon engine wear is reduced

Mine runs with the map on and with propane on - if I get stuck in traffic jams etc the propane is turned off as there is no benefit having it on.

My fuel economy is excellent with the remap, not sure if it would be better without but I doubt it, mainly comes down to my right-foot heaviness ;)

My fuel economy on a pd130 Golf was improved with the remap :D

I get about 5mpg better since having the car remapped so I don't see much point in a switch for that reason.

Ive had revo for 70k... still on original clutch..

it slips occasionally, but only once a month then it goes away.. once you learn to drive differently itll be fine..

mpg increases for gentle day to day driving, but will be slightly less on "spirited" drives ;) - the thing to be weary of is the brakes... i realised because the remap is kinda effortless speed, you end up approaching corners much much much quicker than you should.. and the original brakes didnt really inspire confidence for me.

How do you find the Revo Colin, and where did you get it done?

I had mine done at JBS about 3 years ago..

Its great!.. remaps are all much of a muchness these days.. there isnt really one thats clearly better than another in terms of figures.

altho strangely mine comes on-boost 500rpm sooner than others ive seen RR graphs for.. RR results for mine vary from 185bhp/310lbft from Stealth and JBS to 175bhp/283lbft for my most-recent run at Awesome GTI, which iirc was the highest non-hybrid turbo results theyve seen on a 130. altho i guess milage is a factor.. my car is almost run-in now

Do you not find it spikey the Revo? Just waying up which remap to get myself!

More spikey than std - yes... but its smooth from 2k up to 3.5k before it starts to tail off

let me dig out some of my graphs

Edit... on awesomeGTIs webby, under Rolling roads, mines the black furby on the SeatCupra.net Rolling Road Day Results 22nd Oct 2005.

unfortunately those graphs dont show torque.. basically theres a little spike at 2k then holds almost flat at 280lb/ft until 3k and tails to 250lb/ft by 3.5k

also old jbs RR(pre custom code):
