My new alloys - and help request......

Featured Replies

Bought some new alloys for my Octy II Elegance over Xmas....

They are 17" ones that I bought 2nd hand off Ebay - but originally fitted as an option on an Audi A4 S-Line 3.0 TDi Quattro. I know several of you recommended 18's, but my budget was limited and I got these for not much more than the tyres (Avon ZZ3 235/45/17) would have cost.

I now have to sort out the centre caps and would like your thoughts / recommendations. This is what is on....

The chrome ring and the Audi badge can be pushed off from the back but the outer / inner is all one piece. There is an identation where the Audi badge is.

I've got some silver vinyl circles from a local sign-writing place that will cover the centre, although the indentations are still visible

I've also got some plastic/vinyl type Skoda badges which are currently on backing paper, but I guess these would glue on. The only problem is the diameter of these does not fully cover the indentation.

Is this as good as I'm going to get, or is there anything else I can do?

I know the problem Andy, the S3 alloys I had on the Fabia had nearly exactly the same centre piece.

Ended up just sticking with the Audi ones TBH. Was too much hassle doing anything else. The car ended up going a couple of months later anyway; whether or not it would have annoyed me enough to eventually do something about it is anyone's guess :)

Wheels look good BTW. When is it getting lowered? :P

Sarah has already given me a price!

Nice wheels, but I thought the A4 offset would be wrong for the Octy 2???

Octy is like ET45-50

A4 is around ET35.

Andy, just buy the A4 to go with them! :sofahide:

Can you please explain to a numpty like me what that means?

The wheels seem closer to the edge of the arches but aren't really sticking out past them.

Is the wrong offset a major problem? Will it effect handling or anything else for that matter?

Cheers

Andy

I like those. Will be even better lowered

Might be best to get it tracked (after lowering) but I think they look better a bit closer to the edge of the arch - because of the lower offset.

Yes the wheels will be closer to the edge of the arch as te offest is lower. (its a measurement taken from the mounting face to the outside edge of the wheel). As for effecting the handling, well the car is designed to run on ET45-50 alloys, so the geometry is worked out for those settings.

Having said that if its driving nice and not catching then great. The only issue I have seen with ET35 wheels on a new shape Audi A3 is they cought on the rear arches when lowered.

You should be fine  , this is a handy tool for those looking at wheels:-

I have to say, I'm not too keen tbh. However, i think I could be swayed when lowered with some Skoda centre caps!

I got them off the Ebay seller who I bought the wheels off. He has an alloy wheel shop in Liverpool (I can't remember the name sorry), but he's selling off stuff he has taken in part-ex etc on Ebay.

His Ebay User ID is seane8547, and his current stock is listed here. You could maybe contact him and ask him if he will post some out to you.

The badges are ax 49mm diameter

It would look ace running Rob's 'chopped drop Andy

What did you get quoted from Sarah?

And maybe a little boot spoiler, maybe just a lip type. But yeah, I know where do you draw the line? You could go on forever :P
