Changing headlamp bulbs in older Octavia with Xenons?

Featured Replies

Hi briskodasts!

I need help. On my Octavia [Check it out (unfortunately in estonian) Eesti

They're easy to change but you do need to take the headlights out. Firstly remove the 8mm (I think) bolts which hold the indicators in, and slide the indicator unit out. It's best to disconnect the wiring and put the indicator unit somewhere out of the way now.

Next remove the torx screws which hold the headlight unit in place, there are two on the inner edge of the light, one at the top and one on the outer edge (which is why you needed to remove the indicator).

Once you have removed the torx screws you can move the headlight forward (making sure you don't damage the paint on the headlight washer). Disconnect the plugs on the back of the unit (There are two on one of the headlights and one on the other I think).

With the headlight out, remove the 2/3 torx screws which hold the ballast unit onto the back of the unit and then remove the 5 or 6 torx screws which hold the back cover on. Withdraw the back cover and move it to one side (you wont be able to remove it completely as there are wires attached to it).

The xenon burner is the one marked with a high voltage symbol. The plug on the back of the Xenon bulb needs to be twisted (anti clockwise I think) about 1/4 turn to release it. I can't remember how the Xenon bulb is held in place but I had no problems removing it so it must be obvious when you look!

Refitting is the reversal of removal taking care when replacing the rear cover of the headlight to make sure the seal is clean and well seated to avoid water ingress.

Hope this helps
