Boot or Hatch?

Featured Replies

Strange isn't it that cars for the masses favour a hatchback but when you move up the social pecking order and can afford a premium brand i.e. Mercedes, BMW & Audi they all make their cars that have a boot, not a hatchback to be found!. Why is that?.

I thnk the hatch is viewed as the family car, get your shopping and/or the dog in the back.

Execs have no need for the access so have a large boot with smaller access.

They do..... but then you require a premium estate..... coz it costs more

I was under the impression that a boot is somewhat more secure, thus better if you're carrying a laptop and other expensive business acoutrements. And parking in all sorts of hotel and business park car parks.

I'm oft amazed at just how large saloon boots are.

Also a saloon is more refined than a hatch :D

Would a saloon tend to be more rigid?

Indeed, you don't need a hatch to fit Golf Clubs in either, as they slot nicely into the boot of a saloon :D

Not any more , as most of them now have access to the boot via the folding rear seats.

True, but that's a lot more effort than just caving in the back 'screen...

Yes, but the wife/partner usually has a hatchback ;)

And the folding rear seats are lockable on the Superb.

Or a 4x4/SUV

I quite like them.

One source I've heard said that execs have boots "because it stops the cold draft on the back passenger's necks when you open the boot/hatch".
