Help - Front Springs going Boiiing!

Featured Replies

Hello all-

Hope you can give me a hand. I have a 2000 Fabia 1400cc 8v, which drives really well except for one thing - the front springs! When pulling off after the car has been parked for while, they emit a loud "boiiiing" when going to full LH or RH lock, going forwards or reverse. They tend to do this again with a change of direction - e.g. opposite lock or going backwards after having gone forwards. Once they've "boiiinged" once in each direction, they seem to settle down OK - although the amount of boiing events is slowly increasing.

It wouldn't be a problem - except my girlfriend has to use the car for a driving instructor's test in 2 weeks time, and they will be sounding off all the time doing all those manouveres with the examiner in the car. And if she fails cos of that, I'm in the dog house big time!

Any ideas what the cause could be and how to fix it? (And I'm serious about the instructor test - it's for real.)

Could be that the strut top bearings have seized so that as the steering wheel is turn the springs are forced out of position and and go "boing" as they drop into a new one or back to where they should be.

more likely to be the anti-roll bar making that noise
