We have had Skodas as the family workhorse for about 16 years now. New 1990 Favorit LX (preVW) 1993 Facelift Fav LXi Estate 1995 Felicia Estate 1.3Glxi and now a 98 Felicia Estate 1.3 MPI. All of them have been great cars which we have run to pretty high mileages with very little serious trouble except the things you expect to wear out over 100,000 miles..though the current one is having a 'loss of power' tantrum at present, which needs further investigation. All in all, something close to 400,000 Skoda miles in our household, and we have really liked the cars a lot..

The rest of my fleet is my 93 Alfa Romeo 164 Super 3.0 24 valve for fun, and a Kia Sorento XS for boat towing and family duties..Didn't think I'd like the Kia having hated most 4x4s, but I'm embarrassed to say its really good.

The downside is that we are unlikely to buy another Skoda as we believe that service levels collapsed when Skoda (VW more like) shut down all the small family dealers who had given us such good service over the years..Brookroyd Garage near Harrogate, G. Harniess in Louth, and Hadwick Motors near Boston to name but three who really looked after us, but are no longer dealers. Last week when I needed a water pump Skoda could not supply one at all..and I mean AT ALL..Q.E.D.:(
