Does anyone know if I can replace the OEM autochanger in the boot with a direct replacement autochanger that will play MP3 files. Has anyone done this? I notice that Pnansonic do a DH801 8 autochanger that seems to be compatible with any AV set up - is this true?.

I only want to be able to swap directly the OEM for a new one with same cables. I know I am asking alot but if you don't ask you don't find out.

Interesting question. But it only plays mp3s burned to a disk. Is that really a big advantage> I'd really want a player that could input from a mp3 player as well as play mp3 cds/dvds.

No, its not going to work. I believe you can get an adaptor to connect a sony changer, but you will need to use new wiring. The adaptor changes the way that the HU sees the folders on the CD.

Thanks for your inputs guys - I think I will leave well alone and just use the portable player I have connected to the AUX IN socket.
