Fabia Warning Light

Featured Replies

Hello folks - its good to find this site and perhaps some fellow sufferers from my complaint. My wife and I are very pleased with our 1.4 Fabia (still under warranty) except for a warning light which won't go away. Its to do with the exhaust gases and a lambda probe was replaced early in January, but 3 subsequent visits to the dealer have failed to solve the problem. The latest diagnosis was a poor connection, supposedly now fixed, but after a few days the light reappears for a few days, then tends to go off but later comes back on intermittently. An added complication is the present trouble with contaminated petrol but I don't think this affects us. Also, when the light is on performance is still OK. I see from a previous post that an owner with a similar problem was told by technicians to ignore the light, but wonder whether anyone can help further on this, please.

Well, the light shouldn't be on, but some 1.4 engines have a reputation for lighting it up at the slightest provocation. You could do with getting VAG-COM connected and the codes read for a start.

Oh... Welcome.

Thank you cjb for your swift reply and welcome but, excuse my ignorance, what is VAG-COM?

It's a PC software package that is the closest equivalent to the VAS5051 analyser a Skoda dealer would use to interrogate your car for fault codes. It works on most VW/Audi/Seat/Skoda cars 1996 or later.

Thank you Chris for the information - I'm going to try the dealer again tomorrow or Friday but will certainly keep VAG-COM in mind. I'll also post further when I know the outcome of all this, but you have eased my mind when you say some 1.4 engines are prone to this intermittent light, and presumably none the worse for it.

HI There

I am new too but if it is any consolation I have just sold an '02 Audi S6 Avant and for last 30k miles the engine management light was on. It went in to several dealers, all of whom fiddled around, checked lambda and exhaust gases etc and none of them could fix it.

It appears that modern cars are a bit too clever :) ... wasn't this almost the same script as the start of the Terminator film...

I got used to it and unless it is running badly suggest you keep the dealer aware - only issue might be on resale but mine wasn't...

Welcome also, enjoy the car
